IS-136 Call Processing

Objectives:

The IS-136 Call Processing course is a four and a half day preparation designed to provide Engineers and Technicians with the knowledge and skills required to interpret and use the IS-136 Standard for mobile telephony applications.

  • General history and description of the IS-136 specification
  • Evolution of the control channel from analog to digital
  • Frequency utilization and channel assignments
  • TDMA frame structure and usage
  • Logical Channels
  • Digital Control Channel description and features
  • Format and content of signaling layers 1, 2 and 3
  • States, Procedures and Messages
  • Paging Protocols
  • Call processing in dual mode systems, MAHO, VMLA registration
  • SMS delivery and acknowledgment (DCCH and DTC)
  • Security and Authentication
  • Course Length: 4 ½ days, Monday through noon on Friday

Class Size:

Maximum 15, minimum 5

Location:

The course is offered at the customer’s site, in Wichita, Kansas or by other arrangement.

Who Should Attend:

Systems Engineers, Technicians, RF Engineers, IS-136 Programming Engineers and anyone involved with conformance testing of IS-136 handsets

Prerequisites:

Familiarity with analog cellular systems

Costs:

$300 per day for each student ($1,350 for 4 ½ days). Groups larger than 8 will receive a discount of 50% for each additional student up to the 15-student maximum for the course.
